Saving Toddler Hearts Dr. Binoy Chattuparambil
The team at Healthy City Cayman Islands (HCCI) has received widespread acclaim for their hard work and exceptional training. Back in 2017, the facility made history in the Caribbean after a complex surgery involving a pediatric patient born with his heart outside of his chest.
The boy was born with a rare and life threatening congenital disorder called Pentalogy of Cantrell. The disorder is so rare, in fact, a mere 200 cases had been reported around the world at the time. The lengthy surgery involved Chief Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Binoy Chattuparambil and a broad array of specialists, from anesthesiologists to radiologists and physiotherapists, a decision that HCCI’s Director of Medical Services felt was important. After six hours, the delicate surgery and the child’s recovery proved to be a success, allowing him to live a normal childhood.
The woman who referred the child to HCCI spoke very highly of the facility and their willingness to accept an international patient from Latin America.
